The EU Parliament has given its blessing to the new Copyright Directive which aims to strengthen the position of EU-based creators – filmmakers, actors, musicians, journalists and writers – when negotiating with publishers and producers. It should lead to a fairer system of exploitation of their works and performances, but a lot of people, including academics who have reported on this issue, seem to believe the Directive will actually lead to less available content, legal confusion that can be taken advantage of, and more censorship within Europe.
What do filmmakers, GoPro shooters and photographers have in common? They crave for speed. The ProGrade Digital MicroSDXC memory card is a UHS-2 card that offers just that and not only at the input side. It comes with a UHS-2 converter which has a double row of contacts.
You can create a mood for a movie with background music, by creatively framing, but first and foremost by using lighting. A scene lit with a greenish tinted light comes across very differently from that same scene lit with a reddish tinted filter.
Want to see first hand how good and intelligent the GoPro HERO 7’s stabilisation algorithm is? I accidentally found out when I was in my birth town, driving. I happened to have the HERO 7 mounted on the suction cup mount and this is what I saw when I played the clip in FCXP…
The GoPro HERO 7 Black has a highly effective digital stabilisation system built-in. That is the new GoPro’s unique selling point from which also the smooth time-lapse video is derived. Other novelties include the ability to create HDR shots and a vastly better menu system.
A light meter is an essential tool for serious photographers and filmmakers. The most useful ones not only measure the level of light and translate it into an f-stop, exposure time or ISO value, but also tell you colour characteristics. They will also measure the bursts of light emitted by a strobe or a speed-light. Light meter apps that integrate with a hardware add-on for your iOS or Android device are potentially as accurate as the most expensive light meters and just as flexible and feature-complete. In this category, about a year ago, the Lumu Power was released and it did not disappoint. Now, only a month or so ago, Illuminati Instruments released its Illuminati Light Meter and that one is a real winner.
Rumour has it that GoPro’s HERO6 isn’t selling well and that’s really a pity because this is a very fine action camera. In fact, I thought the HERO5 was pretty amazing until I saw the results the HERO6 can achieve. It’s the action camera we have been craving for.
As it fits the palm of your hand and weighs 110g, you might be excused to think of the Sony RX0 as just another action camera, but that would be terribly wrong. The RX0 may be small, crushproof, shockproof and waterproof, but in reality, this tiny camera is far more powerful than any existing action cam is.
A quick question: in order to record 4K/HDR/4:4:4 footage would you shell out €115 for a coiled HDMI 2.0a cable that is 30cm-60cm long? Or would you opt for a thin, flexible cable of let’s say 150cm that is certified for HDMI 2.0b but costs €25.95? I don’t know about you, but given that I can roll up the latter to a lightweight loop, yet use that same cable to put my video monitor/recorder in a secure location while operating my camera at a distance, I wouldn’t hesitate for a moment. I tested the RU Connected thin cable with a Shogun Inferno, recording 4K/60 in V-log (Rec.2020, aka “HDR”) and was very happy with it.
Sony has just launched the DSC-RX0. It offers the image quality of the Sony RX Series in a robust and ultra-compact housing. The camera offers photo and video capabilities and a waterproof, shockproof and pressure-resistant design. It can also be used in a multi-camera setup, which allows you to create photos, videos or super slow motion pictures from different angles. With a weight of 110 grams and a width of 59 mm, a height of 40.5 mm and depth of 29.8 mm, the RX0 looks like yet another premium compact camera. But this one is different. It has an LCD monitor, can be used to make pictures and videos in rain, underwater or in a sandy or dusty environment. Sony isn’t saying the RX0 is competition with GoPro’s HERO5, but if it is, the RX0 is a GoPro on steroids. The RX0 features Sony’s stacked Exmor RS CMOS image sensor with 15.3 megapixels. It is equipped with a BIONZ X processor and a fixed ZEISS Tessar T 24 mm F4 wide-angle lens. This lens is …
