DxO released its third upgrade of Photolabs, the former Optics Pro. The new version has a new repair and clone tool, a new local adjustments mask manager and a new colour wheel. And finally, after so many years, the metadata module has been updated as well, albeit with a very modest support for a keywords, author name and copyright field.
CalDigit comes out with yet another dock, but this time it’s a fairly unique proposition as it’s both a USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 dock in one, supporting dual 4K connectivity, depending on what you connect it with to your computer or — another first — tablet.
With iPads and iPhones now capable of accessing data on external devices, I reckoned it was time to try out that new feature, so I got myself a test unit of a SanDisk iXPand Flash Drive, a USB memory stick with a somewhat flexible Lightning connector at the opposite end.
A slim note taker with markdown capabilities at its core, Bear by Shiny Frog has gained a considerable advantage over its competitors. Mac and iOS app Bear is well known for its bare (sounds like bear but no pun intended) interface that stays out of the way as you gather your thoughts, web pages, recipes, checklists and anything else you can jot down in wordy format — with or without images. If you collect files and folders without sorting or taking time to organize them, you’ll quickly find your files become an unwieldy mess. Especially dumping files on your Desktop can quickly create an abundant chaos. Often that means we have to set apart some valuable time to perform tasks that are tedious and unproductive.
Capture One Pro is a professional photographer’s delight. It’s an image editor and a media manager. I tried version 12 which comes with a lot of new, cleverly implemented features.
It’s been a while since I reviewed Alien Skin’s Exposure app, so I took it upon me to give Exposure X4 a good look and what I found was an app that combines strong MAM features with an attractive feature set for adjusting and creatively editing images.
The sensitive information manager 1Password has been given an important upgrade. 1Password 7 now has even more powerful security features and together with an even more user-friendly interface, the app is nothing short of a winner. It’s one of only a very few must-have apps.
